📖 A Thought from My Personal Meditation (Exodus 20:1–6)
Today, I meditated on one of the most important chapters in the Old Testament—Exodus chapter 20.
This chapter contains the Ten Commandments, which are important not only in the Old Testament but also have great significance for us as Christians today.
Before giving the Ten Commandments, God first reminded the Israelites:
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.”
Exodus 20:2
These words are very important.
The Israelites often forgot who had delivered them. Whenever they faced a difficulty, they complained against Moses. But God reminded them that it was He who had brought them out of Egypt.
Moses was only the instrument. God was the Deliverer.
The same is true in our lives.
It was not our pastor, evangelist, spiritual leader, or any other human being who delivered us from the bondage of sin.
It was Jesus Christ who redeemed us through His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary.
Therefore, when trials, temptations, failures, sickness, or difficult circumstances come into our lives, we should not forget the One who saved us.
We should never look back at our old life and say, “My life was better before I came to Christ.”
We must always remember the One who delivered us.
The first commandment says:
“You shall have no other gods before Me.”
Exodus 20:3
The second commandment warns us not to make or worship idols.
Most of us may say, “I do not worship any other god. I do not bow down before idols.”
That may be true. But when we examine our lives more deeply, we need to ask:
- Do I truly trust God completely?
- Is God really the first priority in my life?
Our idols may not always be statues. They can be money, power, position, career, relationships, children, possessions, pleasures, or even our own ambitions.
So today, I need to examine my own life before God.
- Who has the first place in my life?
- Who is at the centre of the decisions I make?
- Am I making decisions according to God’s will, or according to the values and desires of the world?
Sometimes, without even realizing it, we may give greater priority to our job, family, children, ambitions, or pleasures than to God.
So today, let us honestly ask ourselves:
- Is God truly first in my life?
- Is He at the centre of my decisions?
May we never forget the God who delivered us from the bondage of sin. May we never allow anything or anyone to take the first place that belongs to God alone.
May God help us to examine our hearts honestly and love and serve Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
