π A Thought from My Personal Meditation
Exodus 25
.
βοΈ The Mercy Seat: Mercy Above the Law
.
As I continued meditating on Exodus 25, my attention was drawn to the Ark of the Covenant.
.
From my childhood, whenever I read about the Tabernacle and its furnishings, much of it was difficult for me to understand. But today, as I meditate more deeply on God’s Word, I can see God’s heart being revealed through every detail.
.
In Exodus 25:10β22, God gives Moses very precise instructions concerning the Ark. Its measurements, the acacia wood, the overlay of pure gold, the rings, the poles, the cherubim, and the Mercy Seatβevery detail was carefully designed by God.
.
Each of these details carries spiritual significance. However, one particular truth touched my heart.
.
Inside the Ark were the tablets of the covenant that God gave to Moses.
.
π “And you shall put into the ark the testimony that I shall give you.” β Exodus 25:16
.
Later in Israel’s history, the jar of manna and Aaron’s budding rod would also be associated with the Ark as reminders of God’s provision and God’s appointed authority (Hebrews 9:4).
.
But what especially caught my attention was this:
.
Above those tablets was the Mercy Seat.
.
π “And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you.” β Exodus 25:21
.
Why did God place the Mercy Seat above those tablets?
.
The tablets represented God’s holy Law. They revealed His holiness, His righteousness, and His standards for His people.
.
But God knew something else.
.
He knew that His people would fail.
.
He knew that they would fall short of His commandments.
.
He knew that they could never stand before Him based on their own righteousness.
.
Therefore, above the Law, God placed the Mercy Seat.
.
What a gracious God!
.
The Law revealed God’s holiness.
.
The Mercy Seat revealed God’s mercy.
.
The Law exposed sin.
.
The Mercy Seat provided a way for sinful people to draw near to a holy God.
.
This points us directly to Jesus Christ.
.
We have all broken God’s Law.
.
We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
.
Yet, in His great love, God provided a way for us to come to Him.
.
Through the blood of Jesus Christ, mercy triumphs over judgment.
.
We do not approach God based on our merits, achievements, or good works.
.
We approach Him because of His mercy.
.
Through Jesus Christ, who bore our sins and opened the way into God’s presence, we can come boldly before God.
.
π “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” β Hebrews 4:16
.
What a gracious God!
.
Even in the design of the Tabernacle, God was revealing His heart.
.
Long before the fullness of the Gospel was revealed, God was already painting a picture of mercy above judgment, grace above failure, and redemption prepared for sinners.
.
May we never forget that we stand before God today not because of our perfection, but because of His mercy.
.
And having received such mercy, may we also show mercy to others.
.
May God help us to reflect the same compassion and mercy that He has shown us in the way we treat our families, fellow believers, friends, colleagues, and even those who have hurt us.
.
π May the good Lord bless you with these words.
.
πΏ Have a blessed day!
