📖 A Thought from My Personal Meditation (Exodus 7–10) – Part 2
As I continued meditating on Exodus chapters 7–10, another lesson deeply challenged my heart.
During the plagues, Pharaoh repeatedly confessed:
“I have sinned.”
Exodus 9:27; 10:16
Pharaoh asked Moses to pray for him. But as soon as the plague was removed, Pharaoh hardened his heart once again.
Pharaoh’s repentance was only temporary. Pharaoh desired deliverance from the consequences, but Pharaoh did not truly turn to God with a surrendered heart.
This leads us to examine our own lives.
Is our repentance sometimes like Pharaoh’s?
Do we seek God only when we face problems, sickness, or failure? Do we cry out to God during those difficult times, but after receiving His deliverance, return to our old life and old habits?
If so, let us honestly examine ourselves: What is the difference between our repentance and Pharaoh’s temporary repentance?
Such a pattern of life hinders spiritual growth. Instead of growing into the likeness of Christ, there is a danger of settling for a temporary spiritual satisfaction or emotional relief. We may appear spiritual outwardly, while our relationship with God gradually becomes stagnant inwardly.
True repentance is not merely saying, “I have sinned.” It is turning away from sin, returning to God with our whole heart, and allowing Him to transform our lives.
May our repentance not be like Pharaoh’s temporary repentance, but a genuine repentance that transforms our lives.
